Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell) is approaching the end of his three year subcontract with Lunar Industries, which operates a mining operation on the moon. The company mines Helium-3, a valuable gas that could a breakthrough in the Earth's energy crisis with using automatic mining machines. His home has been moon, a moon base where he has spent his days alone. He has a company that is mobile computer named Gerty (Voice of Kevin Spacey). One day, he got a accident before 2 weeks of his departure to the earth. When he is with it in medical room, he meet another himself.
